Brazda's album When I Get Low finds her rediscovering songs largely from the 1930s, in the Great American songbook - a time with eerie parallels to today, wedged between a worldwide pandemic and wars. The album features love songs full of melancholy and longing, but is also ultimately uplifting; dreamy and nostalgic with a dash of grit. Brazda’s effortless vocals are supported by a cast of players from her live touring band that features Grammy and JUNO award winners. The entire album was recorded remotely, with all the players tracking their parts in home studios, ranging from Northern Ontario to New Orleans, due to the pandemic. After recording the album, Brazda debuted it live to a full house and rave reviews at Birdland in Hamburg, Germany, as well as at PizzaExpress in London, UK before returning home to tour across Canada in support. The album has received glowing reviews from major news outlets around the world, including Jazzwise Magazine who said Brazda presents "A vivacious vocal and a sense of jazz-inflected elasticity in her delivery.", The Wholenote who said "You won’t find another singer who vocalizes music – including this classic music – quite like Tia Brazda...she has a fully formed style that is wholly her own...gorgeously sullen, long-limbed narratives and floating and spinning lines to unfold with bewitching beauty.", Jazz Journal who said her "intonation is endearing" and The Syncopated Times, who said there's a "clean, fresh, modern sound she imparts, while retaining the soul of these old styles.", and that "While many bands made admirable efforts at remote recording with credible results, this team has absolutely cracked the technique to produce a superb sounding record." The track "Smile" was also added to the Spotify Editorial playlist "Sweet Jazz", where it has earned over 1 million streams since its release.
